DIVINE ENCOUNTER ON RESURRECTION DAY
I strongly believe in something that many people call, “Divine Encounters”. It’s when you know that someone (or an event) comes across your path and there is no doubt that God’s hand was completely in it. Such an event happened Easter Sunday to Alex and Tammy Anit, Multiplication Ministries missionaries to Thailand.
Take a few moments and read the brief account of The Divine Encounter on Easter Sunday, 2012
We had a special Easter (Resurrection Sunday) .. .
After church Tammy and I came across a gentleman on the street and to make a long story short, he was mentally deranged and tormented by spirits who had given him fits of rage and suicidal tendency.
He was a gently spoken man, but God brought my attention to his notebook and his newspaper where he was writing in English
foul and EVIL words that I’d rather not repeat, but I’m sure you get an idea. He asked me if I am working, which was an odd question. I sat down and told him we are missionaries and we’re in the business of helping people know Jesus Christ who will set you free from bondage. He didn’t know what that was.
As we told him, (of God’s love and sacrifice) he started tearing up and making confessions and expressed his desire to be forgiven and for hope in Christ. We prayed right there on the street. He wanted to know the Bible, so we sat with him for a couple hours while going over Multiplication Ministries materials and praying for him. You could see the change physically in him. Then he ripped up the notebook he had, which he didn’t know I saw what was in it. He has an appointment with our friend Lee, who will pray more for him tomorrow.
This guy is looking for work and a new place to stay. I told him the scripture about how Jesus said “look at the birds…God knows all the birds needs and cares for them.” I asked him to find a bird. We looked up and a bird streaked across the sky right above our heads and I told him, “Jesus said how much more precious are you than the bird?” God is going to meet this guy’s needs.

THE GREAT COMMANDMENT (report from Kenya)
‘Love your neighbor as yourself. ’Matthew 22: 39
Love without action is just an emotion, but the kind of love that Multiplication Ministries’ International Director Nancy Spencer showed to the Grannies of Gatina in Kenya, Africa is truly in the spirit of Jesus’ description in Matthew 10:42, “If anyone gives even a cup of cold water to one of these little ones who is my disciple, truly I tell you, that person will certainly not lose their reward.”
Nancy knew that meeting a physical need for 50 village ladies ages from 80-100 would speak loudly for the sake of the gospel. Crops are important for these sweet aged souls yet bending low to the ground could sometimes be difficult or impossible for them. Something had to be done to make thing easier on them while showing the love of God in the process.
Nancy’s own words will tell the story best.
“We constructed 8 table-top crops using one as a model from the same project in 2011. 15 young professionals from Karen Community Church came to show love to these grannies on a scorching HOT day.
Our plan was to level the ground to give us more room for the table-tops, build the raised table-tops, place the tables strategically and
fill with a plastic liner, soil and manure, and help the grannies plant the seedlings into each of the table-tops, all at their level. It was a blast and the smiles on the faces of the grannies were priceless. I walked away with major bug bites and was told that I was more easily spotted by the bugs and they loved white meat!
THE GREAT COMMISSION
Last weekend we went from The Great Commandment to The Great Commission (Matthew 28:19-20) as were able to share with the Grannies about God’s love for them. This time was to meet spiritual needs as we use the resource you have heard me mention time and time again – GET THE PICTURE.
We had a different team from Karen Community Church help me in the teaching of God’s plan for them largely through pictures. We were able to translate the material into Swahili, which was an enormous task! My teaching team did a phenomenal job as most of the grannies do not write or read.
I was able to keep only a step ahead of them as the Gospel was shared with all these dear grannies! I have had such a wonderful time getting to know these grannies and often walked away thinking that life is not fair, but God is good and I have witnessed His goodness.
A SPECIAL OPPORTUNITY
I met Goddard Wafula several months ago. He needed my help (very normal to hear in Kenya), however, this was a very unusual request. He asked for my help in teaching Conversational English. It was an unusually mixed class of 2 Chinese women, 1 Southern Sudan woman, 1Guinea woman, and 1 South American woman. How’s that for me not going out into the world but the world coming to me!!! My times with these women have been so endearing to me. Please pray for me as my lesson plan is to share the gospel with them also”.
NANCY ADDS IMPORTANT NEWS
“I have great news on my Work Permit which is needed in order to stay in Kenya longer. I met with Wellington Mutiso early February. Wellington was the National Director for Life Ministries (CCC-CRU) for many years. He has carried my work permit since 1985. He was as shocked as I was with the fee increase as I was and has happily agreed to reapply for this permit again. I need to leave the country before he actually is allowed to get the necessary signatures for its approval. The Work Permit is 99% confirmed. His words to me were, ‘Go home and pack and we will see you back here in Kenya where you belong’.
Thank you so much for your prayers. I am departing soon for the states and then plan for my return. Please pray for me as my last week can be a killer. I need a good time of closure. Pray that God will multiply my time as I meet with KEY ministry people and pastors”.
PRAISES:
- 3 fruitful months of ministry while here in Kenya.
- My safety while in Kenya, I never take this for granted.
